Ideas for using your Elmo in the elementary classroom.

Creating Rules - Scroll down to the bottom of this page to see the example of classroom rules.  The kids could create the rules on the Elmo as you talk about them.  You could also use MS Publisher to create a formal document to post in the classroom.

Environmental Print - There are many great activities you can do with environmental print at any grade level.  Check out this page for more detailed instructions.

Math Manipulatives - Put your Lakeshore letters and numbers under the Elmo.  It will project the image large enough for everyone to see.

Have a student complete a math problem under the elmo while the class follows along.  This was always a great way to show how a problem is computed and an opportunity to clear up any miscommunications.

Use for a read aloud station.  All kids can see the book at the same time.  I loved sharing books by Chris Van Allsburg.  You can use these book at any level K-12.  It is all in how you present it to the class and what your focus is.  I used a number of primary picture books to teach the fundamentals of poetry in the upper grades.  It started the students on a very basic level and we were able to quickly build our knowledge and background of poetry.

MAP testing!  A great site to help kids understand the math process is Balanced Math.  I also search for standardized tests from New York and Florida.  I used the Elmo to project the random problems and we would solve them as a team so they would understand the basic fundamentals of how these tests operated.

One of the best sites of all times is Time for Kids.  It has current articles and meaningful activities to go with it.
